Welcome to the CIE course on Bringing Anti-Oppression and Allyship into Our Practice. Anti-racism is the “active process of identifying and eliminating racism by changing systems, organizational structures, policies and practices and attitudes, so that power is redistributed and shared equitably” (from the National Action Committee on the Status of Women International Perspectives: Women and Global Solidarity). Anti-oppression extends this to identities other than race (e.g., sexism, transphobia, antisemitism, etc.). Building on the resources in a toolkit created at Wheaton College, faculty and staff can work through specific steps to build a more anti-oppressionist institution (note: the original toolkit focuses more on teaching and classroom content; this course has been adapted to apply more generally to our work, no matter what your role).

Anyone is welcome to explore the materials at their own pace. For those who would prefer a more structured framework, Professional Learning Communities will be offered periodically; for the PLCs, after attending one of the scheduled kick-off sessions*, participants will explore one step/focus area per week with synchronous sessions held weekly.
