DANCE100D-01_DANCE300-01-CX-Spring2022

This class will introduce some key concepts and postures (asanas) from an Ashtanga based practice, and will incorporate novel movements, and movements sourced from other practices such as Feldenkrais and dance. We will consider the appropriation of yoga by the west and contemporary practice of Yoga and investigate how it may be adapted for the purpose of enabling and maintaining lifelong movement facility and health. Particular attention will be devoted to the coordination of movement with breath, a key concept in Ashtanga yoga, and we will endeavor to design for ourselves, individually, a practice that will prepare our bodies for the unique and variable demands placed on us as dancers and movers (and now zoomers).
