Registration Cycle & Waitlist Policies

April 14th thru End of Spring term (5/22) Early Registration period for Fall 2025 classes

Students can enroll in future courses even if they are in-progress at SDSU in the prereq(s).

**Waitlist Policy**

SDSU has a first on/first off waitlist Links to an external site.: if seats open in a course, whoever has been on the waitlist the longest is enrolled first.

The policy defaults to keeping you in enrolled courses rather than placing you in waitlisted courses. Thus, if you are enrolled in one course but waitlisted for...

o  a different section of the same course Links to an external site., then you will remain in the enrolled section of the course (i.e., never get off of the waitlist)

o  a different course that is held at the same time as a course in which you are enrolled Links to an external site., then you will remain in the enrolled course (i.e., never get off of the waitlist for the alternate course).

Early June 2025 Student records update, drops from future classes (if prereqs not met)

After Early Registration ends, the registration is closed for roughly a week to a week and a half. During this time, student records are updated.

Dropping students from Fall 2025 classes. If students enrolled in future classes did not successfully complete prerequisites by the end of Spring 2025—and have the proof on their SDSU degree evaluation—then they will be dropped from the course(s). Students will receive an email from SDSU informing them if they are dropped from future classes.

Keep in mind that this type of force-dropping occurs only for next term classes that use computer-enforced prerequisites (remember, all PSY classes use computer-enforced prereqs). If you are unsure of a course's prereqs, cross-check the course information using this document Links to an external site., which lists the prerequisites for all PSY courses.

For courses outside of the Psychology Department, you can refer to the SDSU catalog Links to an external site. for information on a course's prereqs. Note that the class schedule on my.SDSU may not always explicitly list the prerequisite(s).

Early June until Early Sept - Regular Registration

Prereqs checked when students try to enroll (for all PSY classes, some other classes, like GWAR).

5th day of Fall classes waitlist "auto-enrollment period" ends

Existing waitlists are deleted from the registration system.

6th to 10th day of Fall classes professor discretion to add students until 10th day (add/drop deadline).

All schedule changes must be completed by deadline.

Professors have discretion over whether or not to add students during this period.

  • Professors may/may not allow students to add the class.
  • Professors cannot exceed the stated enrollment cap for the class.
  • Professors do not have to add any students this late, even if there are open seats in the class.

Permission number, if professor approves:

    • for visible classes in the class schedule (most classes)
      • professor adds student to the roster in my.sdsu
      • professor then issues the student a unique class permission number for that student
      • student searches for the course as normal in the class schedule and uses the unique permission number to enroll when prompted
    • for suppressed classes that are not normally visible in the class schedule list (e.g., most PSY 491, 494, 497, 498, 499)
      • professor adds student to the roster in my.sdsu
      • professor sends the student two numbers – the class number plus the unique class permission number for that student
      • student searches for the course using the class number the professor sent and then uses the unique permission number to enroll when prompted
    • Note: if you need a prerequisite override memo (a.k.a. registration exception memo) from the Psychology Advising Office to enroll in a course during this period, you first must get the relevant permission number(s) from the class professor.
